Brightlingsea Regent moved nine points clear at the top of the Ryman League Division One North table on Saturday after beating Bury Town and seeing second-placed Maldon & Tiptree lose at home to Brentwood Town.

Regent edged out Bury Town 1-0 at North Road, courtesy of a 68th minute header from Aaron Condon.

Maldon lost by the same scoreline at Park Drive to a Brentwood side who have now won three on the spin to take them four points clear of the drop zone

Lamar Reynolds scored the only goal at the Wallace Binder Group Stadium in the 34th minute.

Third-placed AFC Hornchurch could only draw with Wroxham, who moved off the bottom of the table as a consequence, but are still a massive fifteen points adrift of the safety-mark.

Martin Tuohy`s goal on the half-hour mark had the Urchins in front, but recent recruit Connor Deeks equalised 13 minutes from time for the Yachtsmen.

But with only eighteen points left to play for, Wroxham, and now bottom side Great Wakering Rovers look doomed.

Rovers lost 5-2 at fifth-placed Haringey Borough, whose Dan Aristidou opened the scoring after just 4 minutes.

Jake Gordon bagged a brace for the visitors in the 10th and 67th minutes, but in between, Scott Olu Duojaiye scored two for Boro, with Anthony McDonald and Ralston Gabriel adding the others.

Third-bottom Soham Town Rangers, however, are now level on points with fourth-bottom Ware after beating fourth-placed Thurrock.

Recent recruit Sam Mulready bagged both of Soham`s goals in a 2-minute spell around the hour-mark – the first from the spot – after Dave Cowley had given Thurrock a 12th minute lead.

Ware lost 2-1 at Plantation Park against a Norwich United side who still have an outside chance of making the top five if results go their way.

Christy Finch gave the Planters a 23rd minute lead, and after Murat Karagul had equalised in the 31st minute, an Alaa Oudji own goal settled things 2 minutes into the second half.

Cheshunt, Bowers & Pitsea and, as outsiders, Phoenix Sports maintain interest in the play-off race, although only the latter won on Saturday.

Sixth-placed Cheshunt were beaten 3-0 at VCD Athletic, whose Victor Zapata Caicedo bagged a brace in the 45th and 90th minutes, sandwiched by a 53rd minute goal from the much-travelled Jamie Guy.

Bowers were held to a 1-1 home draw by Waltham Abbey, whose Billy Holland gave them an 8th minute lead.

David Knight salvaged a point for the home side 9 minutes from time.

Phoenix Sports were 2-0 winners at Chadfields against Tilbury, thanks to Theo Fairweather-Johnson after 12 minutes and Jack Barry 12 minutes later.

Heybridge Swifts looked on course for a 3-1 win at Romford with goals from Reece Grant, Lewis Godbold and Adam Bolle – David Fallah for Boro – only to be pegged back by two stoppage time goals in the 92nd and 95th minutes from Ryan Mallett and James Ishmail respectively.

Dereham Town and Aveley also shared the spoil in Norfolk, with Adam Smith putting the hosts ahead after just 2 minutes.

Billy Coyne`s spot-kick levelled matters after 24 minutes and then Jay Eastoe-Smith restored Dereham`s lead 6 minutes after the break, only for the Millers to pull back on terms 7 minutes later.
