After securing his first win as Marine manager, Tommy Lawson is tipping his team to avoid relegation.

The Evo-Stik Northern Premier League club beat Ashton United 3-1 on Saturday.

Not only was it Lawson’s first taste of victory, if was the club’s first win since the 28th of January when they beat Stafford Rangers.

Since then Marine have lost 7 of the next 9 games but the manager is starting to turn things around.

It has left them in a scrap for relegation but the new boss has already seen enough to suggest it’s one they can win.

He said: “There’s no doubt about it, this team can stay up. We’re good enough.

“We know it will be a challenge but so far I’ve seen nothing put positive signs and the players even before Saturday weren’t lacking in confidence.

“It’s a different experience for me but you don’t get jobs a few months before the end of the season at a club where things are going well!”

Marine face a difficult trip to Grantham Town this weekend but they can take heart from a 1-0 win at the Arrival back in October.
