Gateshead’s late winner against Woking yesterday proves they have the legs for a promotion fight.
That is the verdict of their manager, Neil Aspin, who watched his team secure a rare late victory which maintained the side’s Vanarama National League promotion position.
Wes York’s goal proved crucial at the International Stadium and they held their two point lead over Dover and Aldershot, who both won this weekend. Dover beat Bromley while Aldershot defeated Sutton United 2-0 at the EBB.
But Aspin suggested Gateshead’s match should have come with a health warning!
“It was exciting but not great for my heart!” he said. “We just had to keep going and we did that. It was an exciting end and we’ve not done that before, we don’t seem to get late winners and I guess it was our turn.
“We kept going. All good sides keep going and we did that. Wes got himself in the right place and one point is now three.
“The second half we were excellent but we’ve got to carry that performance forward now.”
