Nottingham-born defender Steve Craven has been handed a deal by Blue Square Bet Premier club Mansfield Town until….

….the end of the season following a trial spell at Field Mill.

Originally with Notts County, Craven, 23, took up a scholarship in the United States following his release from Meadow Lane and has since played for Long Island Rough Riders and FC New York.

Craven made several first-team appearances for County as a 17-year-old before moving to the States in 2007 after being offered a college soccer scholarship at Lynn University.

He played three seasons for Lynn Fighting Knights and helped them to two conference titles. He transferred to the University at Buffalo prior to his senior year in 2010.

During his college years he also played with the Long Island Rough Riders in the USL Premier Development League before signing as a professional in 2011 with FC New York of the USL Professional Division.

Since returning to England he has been linked with several English and Scottish clubs.
