Ebac Northern League First Division club Dunston UTS have signed defender Dan Smith from league rivals Darlington 1883.

Smith, 26, started his career at Sunderland and made three first team appearances for the Black Cats. Whilst at Sunderland he also had a loan spell at Huddersfield Town where he made eight appearances.

His career then saw him move to Scotland, where he played for Scottish Premier League side Aberdeen and then for a short period to St Johnstone.

In 2008/09 Smith played for Gateshead, making a dozen appearances for Ian Bogie’s side before signing for Blyth Spartans in 2010.

His stay with Spartans was a brief one, however, and he moved onto join Chester-le-Street before becoming one of Martin Gray`s first signings for the Quakers last summer.
