Defender Peter Gilbert has extended his contract with Blue Square Bet Premier club Lincoln City until the end of the season.

Gilbert, who was drafted in by manager David Holdsworth, initially on a non-contract basis in early October before he signed a short-term deal, has made fifteen appearances at left-back since linking up with the club.

The former Wales under-21 full-back began as a trainee at Birmingham City before moving on to Plymouth Argyle, whom he helped to the Second Division title.

He also played for Leicester, Sheffield Wednesday and Northampton and spent two seasons with Southend before his release by the Shrimpers last summer.

The experienced full-back’s contract extension will run until May 4th 2013.
