Ambitious Bostik League Premier club Billericay Town have announced two more outstanding signings.
Joining the likes of Jamie O`Hara and Paul Konchesky at New Lodge is former Arsenal and Liverpool star Jermaine Pennant.
The 34-year-old, who was also interesting Scottish Premier League side Hibernian, has agreed a two-year deal with the Essex outfit.
Pennant, who is expected to make his debut in a pre-season friendly against Vanarama National League newcomers Leyton Orient tomorrow, started his career with Notts County and was signed as a youth by Arsenal in 1999.
He went on to play fifteen times for the Gunners as well as having loan spells with Watford, Leeds United and Birmingham City.
A permanent move to St Andrews followed in 2005 and, after thirty-eight games and 2 goals, a transfer to Liverpool for a fee of £6.7m followed in the summer of 2006.
He won the 2006 FA Community Shield and also played a role in the Reds’ run to the 2007 UEFA Champions League Final where Liverpool lost 2–1 to Milan.
Moves to Spanish side Real Zaragoza, Stoke City, the Indian League with FC Pune City and Singapore League with Tampines Rovers followed as well as spells with Wigan Athletic and more latterly, Bury.
Pennant has 24 caps for England under-21s.
Glenn Tamplin has also signed midfielder Rob Davies.
A former Wales under-21 international, Davies progressed through the ranks at West Bromwich Albion making his senior debut in the FA Cup against Reading.
After leaving Albion, Davies, who is Jamie O`Hara`s flat mate, played in Spain for Barakaldo and then for Hednesford Town, Oxford United and Worcester City.
More recently he has been with Essex Alliance League champions Colebrook Royals.
Davies has impressed during pre-season against Bishop’s Stortford and Heybridge Swifts, scoring a free-kick against Swifts on Tuesday night.
