Evo-Stik League South Premier club Hitchin Town have suffered a blow with the news that forward Robbie Burns has decided that he needs to take a break from football altogether.
The 26-year-old, who was in his third spell with the Canaries, was previously with Tranmere Rovers, Leicester City, Nuneaton Borough and Cambridge City.
The birth of his first baby earlier this year is the main reason for his decision and the Canaries hope this rest will re-charge his batteries and that he will sign on again at some point in the season.
However, Hitchin manager Mark Burke has secured two further signings this week.
Twenty-one-year-old midfielder Charlie Smith is back at Top Field after originally signing on loan from Luton Town in January 2014, and in two seasons, played forty-two games, scoring 5 goals.
He subsequently went to St Albans City and Dunstable Town and last season was player of the year at Southern South East side Barton Rovers in their successful season.
Also signing is another midfielder, 19-year-old Jack Green.
Green started his career with St Albans and played in the Vanarama National League South and was doing well but a change of manager saw him move to Dunstable and he played against Hitchin last season.
Both Smith and Green, like other new signings Connor Vincent and Elliott Bailey, fit the `young and hungry` profile that Burke likes.
Many triallists were at training this week and the manager will be running the rule over them in the coming weeks as he decides whether to sign any of them.
