Chester FC have confirmed that defender John McCombe has departed the Vanarama National League club.

McCombe joined in the summer following his release from Macclesfield Town and was subsequently named club captain for the 2017/18 season.

Originally with Huddersfield Town, he went on to make fourteen appearances for the Terriers and then a further twenty-seven for Hereford United before spending five years with Port Vale, totalling 185 games and 14 goals.

Spells with Mansfield Town and York City – where he played fifty-five times – followed before he joined the Silkmen.

The 32-year-old made twenty-three appearances for the Blues as well as one game in the Emirates FA Cup against Kidderminster Harriers.
