French midfielder Richard Gilot has committed to the remainder of the season at Vanarama National League South club Bognor Regis Town after impressing in his first match on Saturday – until his unfortunate dismissal!
Twenty-one-year-old Gilot hails from Rouen in France, and having graduated through the youth system with Le Havre, he transferred to US Quevilly-Rouen who play in the second tier of French football.
Last season he played for their under-23 side, who play in the fifth tier of French football.
Manager Jack Pearce told the club`s official Pitchero website: “Richard has come to England to try to earn a contract with a club higher up the Pyramid than us, but we have agreed that Richard would play for us for the foreseeable future.
“Saturday was a challenging match in which to make a first appearance for the club, and we were delighted to see signs of what Richard might be capable of.
“The double booking was unfortunate – whilst there can be no argument with the second yellow card, video evidence shows the first to be what we felt to be a strong, but fair tackle. Although Richard will now miss next Saturday’s match, we look forward to seeing him in action again soon.”
Meanwhile, Joe Lea has decided to join Evo-Stik League South Premier side Gosport Borough as he wishes to play regular first-team football.
Bognor have therefore agreed to cancel his contract.
Despite not getting much playing time, Lea was unfailing in his commitment to the club and his cheerful and friendly personality will be missed.
In terms of player recruitment, the priority for the Rocks remains a striker.
There have been at least ten who the club have looked at and either enquired about or discounted after watching the player in action in recent weeks.
Those who the club were interested in signing were either too expensive or were put off by the travelling involved.
Whilst the club will not be forced into an inappropriate signing, efforts will continue this coming week.
