Evo-Stik League South Premier strugglers Gosport Borough have signed 19-year-old defender Harvey Read on a month`s loan from Vanarama National League neighbours Eastleigh.

Read joined the Spitfires in the summer following his release from Premier League Stoke City.

Centre-back Read, who hails from Lyndhurst, joined Stoke’s scholarship programme as an under-16 having previously spent time with Southampton.

He progressed to the Potters’ under-18 and under-23 sides and played his part in getting Stoke to the semi-finals of the last season’s FA Youth Cup.

He had been on trial with Eastleigh over the course of pre-season and impressed manager Richard Hill in couple of pre-season fixtures.

Earlier this season, Read spent a month on loan with National league South side Hungerford Town, starting a couple of games, but has been an unused substitute for Eastleigh thus far this term.
