Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division club Mickleover Sports` assistant-manager Paul Groves has moved up to the Sky Bet Championship after joining Harry Redknapp’s rescue mission at Birmingham City.

The former AFC Bournemouth boss and academy manager at Bristol City has left the Don Amott Arena to help the ex-West Ham, Tottenham and QPR boss quickly turn around the relegation-threatened Blues` season.

Redknapp and his second appointment as first-team coach, former Cheltenham Town boss Steve Cotterill, succeeded Gianfranco Zola on Tuesday after a 2-0 defeat by fellow strugglers Burton Albion on Easter Monday saw the Italian leave with City just three points above the drop zone.

Instead of being alongside Sports manager John McGrath in the club’s final home game on Saturday with Frickley Athletic, Groves is expected to be preparing for a trip to Aston Villa with Redknapp on Sunday with just three games to go.
