Taunton Town will clinch the Evo-Stik League South West title today if they beat Evesham United at home and main rivals Salisbury FC lose – also at home, to Cinderford Town.
Taunton have already made sure of playing Evo-Stik South Premier football next season following their 1-0 away victory over Bideford AFC on Easter Monday.
It enabled them to stretch their unbeaten run in the league to an incredible twenty-eight matches and to top eighty-eight points for the season – enough to take one of the two automatic promotion places.
Taunton will move on to ninety-one points today if they win, while Salisbury would not be able to catch them if they go down, even if they won all their remaining six matches.
“In the dressing room, promotion is secondary to the title, but for those who run the club promotion was the priority,” said Taunton boss Leigh Robinson.
If Taunton should falter today they have another chance on Tuesday night when they play Slimbridge – also at home.
