Evo-Stik League South Premier club Redditch United have taken goalkeeper Ethan Ross on loan from Premier League side West Bromwich Albion.
Ross said he is excited and looking forward to his time with the Reds after the 20-year-old put pen-to-paper on a six-month deal at the Trico Stadium and goes straight into the squad for today’s opening match with Dunstable Town.
He spent part of last season on loan at Worcester City, then in the Vanarama National League North.
“I grew up watching non-League football so I know what a tough league this is,” Ross said. “So, when I was offered the chance to come to Redditch I was excited by the opportunity to play football at a decent level.
“I’ve trained with the lads twice this week and they’re a good group. I knew a bit about them as I played alongside Danny Jackman when we were at Worcester and I’d spoken to him.”
Ross and Brad Catlow will compete for the number one slot and the on-loan keeper is looking forward to working with Reds manager Darren Byfield.
“I knew him already because he is friends with Darren Moore, who is with us at the Albion,” Ross said. “He has had a fantastic career as a player and that experience means he will flourish as a manager. He wants to win every game – you can see that at training – and that is something that has been drilled into us at West Brom, that winning mentality.”
