Total Motion Midland League Premier Division title favourites Bromsgrove Sporting have been rocked by the news that highly-successful manager Paul Smith will be stepping down at the end of the season.

Smith took to Twitter to announce the news, although he wouldn`t explain the full details of the reasons for his decision until the end of the season.

It was revealed earlier this week that talks with the club`s executive committee over a contract for Smith had stalled after agreement that a contract was “not needed at the present time”.

Smith stated on Twitter: “With all the rumours and problems off the pitch and around the place at the moment, I wanted to put it all to bed once and for all
to give his boys the best chance of trying to win another league.

“It`s with an extremely heavy heart I tell you that at the end of the season, I will be standing down as manager of the football club. I don`t feel now is the right time to go into all the details, but I can assure you all that I will release a full statement at the season`s end, detailing exactly why.

“Having first started in non-League football 24 years ago, Smith said the last twelve months had been the most challenging and it has now come to the point where I felt I had to give up.

“I will go with the knowledge that for as long as I have been with the club, I have given it my all on and the off pitch.

“A record on the pitch second to none, efforts off it to boost the profile of the club and encourage you fans back, all this without any recompense.

“In a nutshell, I feel it’s paramount when working at a football club to do so with honesty, integrity and transparency.

“If I am working with people I feel haven’t the same mindset then there could be problems.

“The final nail in the coffin was the outcome of Tuesday night’s executive committee meeting which resulted in the Board and I agreeing a contact was ‘not needed at the present time’.

“If I could have recorded the meeting and played it to you all, you would have been totally gobsmacked, even more so after reading the latest releases and statements.

“The success on the pitch is masking over huge issues off it.

“I wanted to put this out there now to put it all to bed.

“We can all focus now on what’s important – that’s trying to win a league!”
