There were seven games in the South West Peninsula League Premier Division on Saturday, although with `Board Masters` there were mainly North Cornwall clubs having a day off.
The sides in action included both of last season`s Division One champions with both winning tough looking away trips.
West champions Sticker were 2-0 victors at Exmouth Town, whilst East champions Stoke Gabriel edged a 3-2 win away at St Austell as they both quickly got off the mark in the Premier Division.
Two sides had their shooting boots very much on as Saltash United beat Witheridge 8-1 at Kimberley Stadium and reigning champions Tavistock started the defence of their title with a 7-0 victory away at Falmouth Town.
Callington Town had a 4-0 home win over Cullompton Rangers and Plymouth Parkway were 2-0 winners away at Launceston with just one match ending in a draw as Bodmin Town and Torpoint Athletic shared the spoils from a 1-1 stalemate at Priory Park.
Twenty-four hours earlier, a bumper crowd of 310 were at Erme Valley to see the first league game of the new season with Ivybridge Town hosting Plymouth Argyle.
The Ivy’s opened the scoring with Joe Truelove claiming the first goal of the new season, but two goals midway through the second half saw Argyle claim the points with a 2-1 victory.
The Pilgrims leveller came from Dan Rooney before a cross was bundled into the net for an own goal winner.
