In just their second game of 2018 in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division, Buckland Athletic registered an impressive 1-0 victory away at Clevedon Town with Craig Duff scoring the only goal of the game 13 minutes into the contest.
Bridgwater Town moved up to sixth spot in the table, after an early penalty save from Jake Viney set them on their way to a 4-0 win away at Cadbury Heath.
Viney made the vital stop inside the first quarter-hour, and then just 15 minutes later the visitors went ahead after Syd Camper set up Jack Taylor to keep up his fine form in front of goal.
Not long after the opener, Camper was involved again in Bridgwater’s second, with Michael Duffy firing home from the spot after his team-mate had been felled in the home side’s area.
Midway through the second half, Jack Jenkins put the result beyond doubt after adding Bridgwater’s third, with Steve Holland claiming the fourth late on.
Cribbs have now gained ten points from a possible twelve since the turn of the year, after a double from Jake Slocombe, plus a goal from Dan Dyke saw the home side defeat Chipping Sodbury Town 3-1 at the Lawns.
Hengrove Athletic ended a streak of three straight defeats by beating Bridport 3-2 at Norton Lane.
After Bridport took a 25th minute lead through Mark Salter, the game shot to life, and within 5 minutes of falling behind, Hengrove had turned the game on its head with both Jack Fillingham and Luke Crewe finding the back of the net.
An own goal in the moments before half-time levelled the score to undo Hengrove’s hard work, but they had the last word with Fillingham’s second goal of the afternoon on the hour-mark sending them home with all three points.
Aaron Anglin’s 10th minute penalty was followed up by a late goal from Sam Skidmore as Hallen took advantage of the extra man to defeat ten-man Odd Down 2-0 in their bottom-half battle.
Shepton Mallet defeated Longwell Green Sports 3-1 thanks to goals from James Billing, Craig Loxton and Tyson Pollard to end the visitors three-match unbeaten run.
