James Webster, manager of Bostik League Premier club Brightlingsea Regent, has added two players to his squad

Webster has brought in Luke Mallett and Joe Bedford.

Mallett joins on a permanent deal. He was previously with Vanarama National League South side Braintree Town where he came through the Iron’s academy before joining Bostik North outfit Witham Town, where he featured against the R’s last season.

Luke is a wing back who can play on the right or left side. He likes to get forward and will fit in nicely with our style of play, he is also comfortable in possession and likes to get on the ball.

Bedford joins from SkyBet League One side Southend United on a season-long loan deal.

The youngster, who signed his first professional deal in the summer, is very highly-rated by Shrimpers` manager Phil Brown.

Bedford is a central midfielder and has been at Southend since the age of 8.

The 19-year-old is ready to get game-time with Regent in order to progress with his career.

Webster said: “I would like to thank academy manager Ricky Duncan and administrator Lis Orford at Southend United for their help in pushing the deal through so promptly, also my assistant-manager Chris Smith, who straight off the back of a night shift drove to Southend to meet Joe and get all paper work sorted.

“I can`t wait to start working with both of these players and I feel both will progress their careers with Brightlingsea Regent.”

Both players will go straight into Webster’s squad ahead of their trip to The Kings Marsh Stadium to face AFC Sudbury in tonight’s Velocity Trophy tie.
