Hitchin manager Mark Burke wants his team to build another great home run – starting tonight.
Town lost for the first time in 17 matches at Top Field a week ago as Dorchester shocked the EvoStik Premier promotion contenders.
Burke knows the importance of strong home form and with Cirencester visiting this evening the boss wants the fans on the team’s side to get three points on the board.
“Last Monday we missed a great opportunity to pull away from our opponents so I hope this Monday we make the most of playing a day before other teams,” he said. “If we win it puts pressure on them and is another advantage of playing on Monday.
“I urge the supporters to keep the faith and to continue to turn up in large numbers.
“We paid a very heavy price for conceding an early goal on Monday night against Dorchester. Credit has to be given to Dorchester as they defended with their lives as we totally dominated after the goal.
“We had 30 crosses, 26 attempts on goal and 75% possession but it was just not going to be our night. I in no way think the Saturday/Monday fixtures had any effect.
“However I do think our fourth game in 10 days may have led to a lack of sharpness as the long trip to Merthyr and hard game with Frome may have caught up with us and even if the Dorchester game was played on the Tuesday this would have been the case.”
