Freakes brings in his assistant Andy Whiteman from FC United of Manchester`s youth team with him, along with a whole host of new faces to the playing staff.
Former Rochdale goalkeeper Tom Elford from Heywood St James, West Lancs League keeper Arron Rushton, right-back Johannes Shambere and centre back Jordan Dainty from FC United, Dan Lafferty, an ex-Leigh Genesis centre back, left-back Anthony Peck, who was on the books at Oldham Athletic, ex-Trafford and FC United midfielder Sam Freakes, Jamie Matthews, who played for Chicago Fire in the USA, central midfielder Mike Barnes–Gott from Manchester League side Avro, ex-Mossley left-sided midfielder Kane Joyce and strikers Rick Gleave, previously with Leigh Genesis and Tom Keegan from Curzon Ashton. Freakes said: “I went to Oldham before the end of the season to monitor the playing staff. The starting eleven was fine but any injury, suspensions or work commitments devastated the team. So after a fourteenth-place finish new recruits were very much needed.
“We look to have a great balance between youth and experience and the squad now looks very balanced.
“The new additions include two top keepers, big, strong footballing defenders, a lovely balance of box-to-box, ball playing and holding midfielders, quick widemen and two new goalscorers. It should be a very productive season.”
The club has had to move from their long-standing ground in Limeside in Oldham due to the FA directive on groundshare with other sports, so will now play their games at Atherton Collieries in Bolton.
The pitch at Atherton looks superb after extensive work around the Alder Stadium, and along with a new training ground in Oldham and new training routines, it really is “all change at Oldham Boro”.
