Ambitious Plans Reason for Davies` Move
Carl Davies

....the club's ambitious plans were a key reason for him joining last week.

Davies joins the Crusaders from Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division side Binfield where he scored twenty-four goals in forty-two appearances last season.

The talented Welshman has been brought in to strengthen the attack, which already includes Mark Draycott, Luke Hopper and Harry Goodger.

And he says the prospect of winning honours under manager Bobby Wilkinson was too tempting to ignore.

Davies explained: "Hungerford have got ambition, which is what I like."

"They want to win this league after coming fifth last year and losing the play-off."

"The chairman is in agreement with Bobby and he's not afraid to come out and get the better players."

Wilkinson was obviously keen to bring Davies to Bulpit Lane. He was rebufferd first time around but his persistence eventually paid off.

The 27-year-old was eventually persuaded after a second phone call from Wilkinson and will meet up with his new team-mates at the first training session on Thursday.

He explained: "I've always wanted to play in this league."

"I felt I couldn't risk another year not playing at this level."

Davies has already had a spell in the Southern League with rivals Thatcham Town earlier this year.

But it did not go according to plan and he only played twice before returning to Binfield.

Speaking about his time with the Kingfishers, Davies said: "I thought that Thatcham were a lot better than they actually were.

"They didn't play my style of football. I didn't really see it as a step up."

Davies will not be coming up against his old side though, as the Kingfishers have moved across to the Division One Central.

The arrival of Davies could be the final piece in Wilkinson's jig-saw that has also seen Gary Horgan and former Thatcham players Paul Strudley and Scott Rees make the move to Bulpit Lane.
