Another Portsmouth Boy Loaned to Bash
Frank Gray

....deal for Portsmouth midfielder George Colson.

The attack-minded 19-year-old, who earned three caps for Wales at under-16 level, joins Frank Gray’s squad after spending two months with Dorchester Town in the Blue Square Bet South and links up with fellow Pompey youngster Elliot Wheeler at Bashley Road.

And with the recent poor weather handing Bash a hectic schedule over the next few weeks, Gray said that Colson’s arrival was a timely boost. “We have a lot of games coming up and we felt we needed to make the squad bigger, but we’ve been waiting to find the quality to really improve.

“We heard of George’s availability and we’re delighted to bring him in. He scores goals from the middle of the park and likes to get in and around the box. We’re confident he can make an impact.”

The move comes as Bash have rearranged four of their postponed Southern Premier fixtures. Cambridge City will visit Bashley Road on Tuesday, 5th February before Gray takes his squad to another promotion candidate, Hemel Hempstead Town, on Tuesday, 12th February before travelling to second-bottom Redditch United on Tuesday, 5th March. But prior to that, Bash follow up this weekend’s trip to Barwell with a home clash against Chesham United on Tuesday night.

Gray expects a full squad, including Colson, to be available for both matches and added: “Barwell are a strong side but I am more interested in how we perform on Saturday. It’s a tough test but I want us to go there and believe in what we’re doing.

“The match with Chesham is the first of three home games in the next four. Last time we had a run like that we didn’t do ourselves justice so we have to look to change that and gain points on home soil.”
