Ashton Field Strong Side Against Deaf XI
Danny Johnson - fielded a strong side

The friendly was designed to help the GB team prepare for the forthcoming 2013 Deaflympics Qualification Match against Greece - that match will be played at Ashford Town (Middlx) in September, with the British lads hoping to qualify for the 2013 Deaflympics to be held next summer in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Manager Danny Johnson included Terry Smith and Matty Barlow from last Saturday's win over Worksop Town - also featuring were several players with first-team experience - Kyle Harrop, Danny Lambert and Dave Sherlock – plus new signings Sam Hare and Josh Williams, with a mix of trialists making up the numbers.

Ashton took an early lead with Sherlock scoring, which was soon doubled by Lambert - the GB lads' were not lacking in skill but appeared unused to the pace and physicality offered by The Robins.

Ashton raced into a five-goal lead (Sherlock bagging three) and threatened to run away with the game before easing off.

With Johnson playing a highly attacking 3-3-4 formation, the Deaf XI showed their resilience in the second half by pulling back two goals, although they were indebted to their keeper for several fine saves at the other end – the final score running out at 7-3 to Ashton.
