....manager Gary Bickerstaffe to the first-team manager`s position.
Bickerstaffe first took control of the team in March 2009, steering them away from the relegation zone to a comfortable sixteenth-place finish.
The following season he guided the side to a ninth-place finish and the semi-final of the League Challenge Cup.
Bickerstaffe, who also made over 200 appearances for the club he joined as a player in 1992, is steeped in the tradition and history of the club and is delighted to be back in the role.
He said: “St Helens Town is a club which has played an integral role in my football life and I jumped at the chance to get involved again. Whilst I know it is not under the easiest of circumstances, I will relish the role and am proud to be back in charge at my home town club.”
Chairman John McKiernan said: “Gary is the perfect fit for St Helens Town and the ideal choice to stabilise the club and take us into next season on the front foot. He understands the club, its aims and remit and we are looking forward to a long and successful period under his command.”
Bickerstaffe is now looking to finalise the pre-season schedule and any club who would be able to host St Helens for a fixture are asked to contact club secretary Jeff Voller at sthelenstownfc@hotmail.co.uk with details of available dates.
