Bideford`s Long Treck In Vain

The Evo-Stik League South West game between Kidlington and Bideford AFC was allowed to start by the match referee on Wednesday night.

Bideford had arrived at Yarnton Road and although the pitch had puddles on it in places, the officials wanted to give it a go as the Devonians had made the three-and-a-half-hour trip.

And the visitors were rewarded with a 13th minute goal when Matt Bye’s corner was flicked on by Sean Downing for Craig Allan to finish.

But it was clear that the pitch wasn`t going to last and the ball began sticking in the mud and wet, making even the simplest pass difficult.

So, the game was abandoned just before half-time with the Robins still leading 1-0.

It was especially tough on Bideford as this was the eleventh time one of their games had been abandoned or postponed due to the weather and their backlog of fixtures is surely going to have an effect on their play-off bid.
