Blaby & Whetstone Athletic have resigned from the East Midlands Counties League with immediate effect.

The club held a committee meeting and, regretfully, had to tender their resignation from the league having struggled to field teams in recent weeks.

A statement from the club reads: “We are truly devastated that it has come to this. We would like to thank everybody that have worked hard to try and keep the season going and to the fans that have followed us throughout the season.”

Blaby were promoted to the EMCL from the Leicestershire Senior League in 2011 and won the Westerby Cup by beating Total Motion Midland League Premier Division outfit Quorn in the final in 2014.

The decision to pull out of the league will obviously have an affect on the league, although the current top five teams have all played Blaby twice.
