New manager Neil Prince said: "I am pleased that Liam has agreed to be player-coach as he is capable of playing at a much higher level. I have known Liam since we were about 15 and know he will be a big asset to the club both on and off the pitch. He has good leadership qualities and I'm confident the lads will respect him and his background in football"

Blakeman added: "When Neil asked me to be player-coach I was made up, I've known him since we were having England Schoolboy trials. We've known each other along time playing academy football against each other whilst I was at Blackburn and Neil was at Liverpool.

“I became good friends with Neil when we played together at Southport. I've been playing non-League football for over ten years under some good managers so feel I have a lot to offer to the players. Also I work for Neil and James' coaching company so I feel that can only help us because of the trust we have in each other.

“I'm looking forward to taking training sessions and working towards making Bootle successful.
