....financial future could actually depend on them staying up in the Blue Square Bet North.

The Stutes’ chief executive has stressed the importance of avoiding relegation this season despite question marks over how the club will continue to be funded in the long-term.

"If we go down it’s going to be even harder for us in the future," said Boateng. "It won’t help us financially.

"To encourage more sponsors we need to be as high up the non-League ladder as possible, so our focus is completely on staying in the Conference North."

His comments come after player-manager David Livermore expressed doubts about whether Histon could afford to compete at their current level, a response to the club’s repeated call for donations from supporters.

"There has been an over-reaction to what has been said," continued Boateng. "It’s two months until the end of the season and this is always a difficult time for a club like ours after everything we’ve been through.

"We’re trying to get as much help as we possibly can."

Boateng hopes next week’s open forum on March 28th will inspire new ideas for raising money as well as giving supporters an opportunity to question board members about the club’s financial position.

"The forum will make it clear to supporters what direction we’re going in," he added.

"There are a lot of things that we will talk about to ensure we have a budget in place for the club going forward.

"We’ll discuss how the club is going to move forward, but the most important thing right now is to support the team and get behind them."
