Matty Tierney

....Tierney from league rivals Salford City.

The strong 19-year-old defender or midfielder joined Salford from FC United of Manchester.

After spending time as a schoolboy and youth player at Manchester City, Tierney drifted into the non-League scene and joined FC United where he played in the play-off final at Colwyn Bay.

After an injury he went on loan to Salford where he came to the attention of the Boro management staff.

Manager Benny Phillips said: “We liked the look of Matty when he performed against us. We made some calls about him and the common thing was he had good ability and had just got a bit lost after leaving Manchester City, which happens to a lot of players when they leave a professional club.

“This club has a history of giving players the opportunity to have a second chance - hopefully Matty can settle down with us and enjoy and express himself.”
