Boro To Groundshare With Colls

.....North West Counties League Division One rivals Atherton Collieries.

A statement issued by the club said: “The decision has been made following an FA directive that football clubs sharing a ground with a club of another sport must have priority in respect of fixtures. Unfortunately, as tenants of Oldham Rugby League Club at Whitebank Stadium, it would not be possible for Oldham Boro to comply with this directive .

“We are extremely grateful to Atherton Collieries FC for their help and assistance in allowing us to play our home fixtures at their ground. This will secure the short-term future of Oldham Boro FC, allowing us to continue to play in the North West Counties Football League.

“It continues to be our intention to return to Oldham as soon as possible, and we are working with Oldham Council to identify and secure possible sites for development.

“We should like to place on record our thanks to Oldham Rugby League Club for allowing us to continue to play our home games at Whitebank since they took possession of the stadium. We would also like to thank our loyal supporters and assure them that a warm welcome at Alder Street will await those who are able to travel”.

Oldham Boro Chairman Mark Kilgannon commented: “We are disappointed in having to make this decision but we will do whatever it takes to maintain our status as one of the town’s only two semi-professional Clubs. We are, naturally, eager to return to the borough as soon as possible, ensuring that the town will continue to support two non-league teams in the pyramid.

“We are hopeful that by working closely with Council officials, we can achieve our ambitions of finding a solution for the benefit of the sporting community of our town.

“We would hope to be back playing football in the Borough of Oldham in time to celebrate the Club’s 50th anniversary in 2014”.

Co-manager Peter Freakes said: “We are pleased that we will be able to play on a good surface next season, which will better suit our playing style.”
