Brabin Calls for Better Checks
Gary Brabin

...football clubs are taken over in order to prevent financial problems further down the line.

On Saturday, some reports in the north suggested that Darlington’s 3-0 defeat at Barrow AFC would be the Quakers’ final match of a 128-year history, while Kettering Town face a winding up order next month.

All the uncertainty is a worry for the other clubs in the Conference Premier after Chester City were expelled from the league in 2010 and all results against them were expunged.

Certainly, if both Darlington and the Poppies go the same way as The Seals, Luton could stand to lose nine points and a goal difference of twelve.

Asked if he was concerned about the futures of the two clubs, Brabin said: “That is out of our hands. It’s nothing we can control but it is a disappointment when it seems to be happening quite a lot in football.

“If there is a takeover at a club there’s got to be some guarantee that they are going to finish a season.

“It is a worrying circumstance for the fans connected to that club but it changes the whole face and shape of a league.

“It’s not fair, no matter what the outcome is. I think certain measures have got to be made to nip it in the bud so that, when there are takeovers at clubs, they go more in depth into the character of the business or people taking over a club.”
