Chairman `Devastated` by Departure
Warren Byerley

....Byerley’s decision to leave for new league rivals Kettering Town as “absolutely devastating”.

The striker broke the news to Terras’ officials just a month after verbally agreeing terms on a new contract at the Bob Lucas Stadium prior to a recent private knee operation, which the club helped pay for.

Byerley’s move to Nene Park will not only see him link-up again with ex-Weymouth chairman George Rolls but it will also see him bag £600-a-week in wages and a hefty goal bonus. The whole episode has left Biddlecombe feeling betrayed but he is adamant it will not stop the club from moving forward.

He said: “At the end of the day we only want players that want to play for Weymouth FC.

“After George Rolls left the club in February it was the current regime that paid Warren’s outstanding wages and bonuses.

“It was also the current regime that paid £2,000 towards a private knee operation for Warren and prior to that agreed a verbal contract with him for next season, which he was scheduled to sign at the sponsors evening next Friday.

“It is clear now that during his recovery period Warren had his head turned and what it shows me is that there really is very little loyalty in football.

“Warren has made it a stipulation that George Rolls pays us back the £2,000 we loaned him and has told us he will be meeting with him next week to collect the money.

“If it is not forthcoming we will look into other ways of getting it back.”

Biddlecombe went on to add: “I am absolutely devastated. I trusted Warren’s word and now he has backtracked on it.

“It is extremely disappointing but now we move on.”

Terras’ boss Brendon King has wasted no time in trying to fill the void by opening talks with a possible replacement. He is also in negotiations with an experienced midfielder.

Meanwhile, Biddlecombe has also reacted to rumours that Rolls is planning to gatecrash the club’s AGM, which is to be held at the Bob Lucas Stadium at midday on June 30th.

He said: “If he attends he will not be allowed to participate as the Rolls family no longer hold any shares in Weymouth FC and have no voting rights.”
