A statement from the club reads: “It is with regret that Hertford Town Football Club confirms the departure of chairman Mike Varney. We would like to thank Mike for his efforts during his time at the club.
“Unfortunately the objectives of Mike, and recently departed manager Matt Allen, did not match those of the Committee and so we believe a parting of the ways was the best outcome for all concerned. We wish them luck for the future, together with Vicki Byron the outgoing physio.
“Members of the Committee – whom without exception are loyal supporters of the club carrying out duties on a voluntary basis, would like to reassure fans that the tireless work we have put in over the past two years without a chairman, has been to stabilise the club and keep the team together.
“The fans who come to the club week in and out will understand the club and Committee's position. Their support as ever, will be invaluable over the coming weeks and months. They, together with the players, remain our focus and we are still confident of delivering a successful 2011/12 season.
“Hertford Town Football Club will be speaking to interested parties regarding the appointment of a new manager shortly.”
