Chairman Urges Fans to Pack The Walks
Buster Chapman

.....ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Premier Division title hopes alive.

Chapman and his son, vice-chairman Jonathan, were among more than 500 travelling Linnets who travelled to Long Buckby on Saturday in the hope of seeing their side all-but seal an elusive UCL title.

However, they were left deflated as Lynn’s nearest rivals, who played the last 25 minutes with ten-men, secured a 2-1 victory to open up the possibility that the championship could be decided by goal difference.

Gary Setchell’s side have a six-point lead and three-goal advantage over the Bucks but have played two games more. And with every point - and goal - likely to be more crucial than ever, the Linnets chief has issued a rallying cry to his club’s supporters ahead of their final home game of the season against Desborough Town at the weekend.

Chapman said: “I could moan about the disappointing result at Long Buckby but all that is irrelevant if the team can now pull out all the stops to still go on and win the league and prove their selves as true champions.

“So let’s forget about that result, be proud of our team and turn out in big numbers to give them the support they deserve on Saturday in our final home game of the season. The league title is there for us to win so let’s win it.”

A year after collecting more than a 100 points in another dramatic title race, only to be pipped by record-breaking St Neots Town, Setchell’s charges face the prospect of another heartbreaking second-place finish.

The defeat in Northamptonshire was Lynn’s first in the league since September - against Buckby at The Walks - and the Linnets boss has admitted he now faces a giant task to lift his players who looked disconsolate at the final whistle.

A victory, that looked a possibility after a fantastic opening 20-minute spell had seen Lynn go in front through a Jason Turner goal, would have practically seen off Glen Botterill’s village side, who now carry huge momentum into their final four matches.

They play the first of their games in hand at mid-table Blackstones tomorrow before facing a tough trip to Boston Town on Saturday.

The title race will only come down to goal difference if both sides win all of their remaining matches and Lynn will be looking to replicate - or better - their 5-0 win at Desborough in December to keep some sort of element of control over the destiny of the UCL trophy which could be decided on the last day of the season on April 28th.
