The 26-year-old free agent has revealed on his Twitter account that he joined the Mariners in pre-season training last week and could feature during Wednesday night's friendly at Baris Northern Counties East League neighbours Grimsby Borough.
Chalmers was released by Conference Premier rivals Macclesfield Town at the end of last season following the Silkmen's relegation from the Football League.
Town officials have remained tight-lipped on the issue.
Interacting with friends and Mariners fans on Twitter, Chalmers has been full of praise for Rob Scott and Paul Hurst's squad.
"Had a great three days at Grimsby Town FC – a very professional outfit with a lot of talent," said Chalmers.
"I've not signed anything – I'm playing on Wednesday I think though.
"They are a great set of lads! Very talented but also a lot of experience – they have every right to be ambitious!
"It's a good club and I'm enjoying seeing the personnel – roll on Wednesday night!
Asked if he was set to sign, he replied: "Just training at the minute, but hopefully something might come of it!"
Chalmers said he has had no reaction from a hernia injury concern. He praised the fitness levels of the Mariners' players, describing them as "machines".
