City Keen on Breeze
Matt Breeze

....Peterborough United midfielder Matt Breeze.

The 19-year-old, who has a year left to run on his contract at London Road, played in Saturday's 3-0 victory at Stratford Town and also has permission to feature against West Bromwich Albion tomorrow.

Locally-born Breeze, on loan at City's league rivals Histon last term , has been deemed surplus to requirements by Darren Ferguson's Posh and is trying to negotiate a release. Worcester manager Carl Heeley said: "Matt is contracted to Peterborough United for another twelve months but I have spoken to them and he's not in their plans.

"It's all about him being able to do a settlement with Peterborough and he wants to come to Worcester. He's a very good player. I don't foresee any problems."

Heeley will be hoping to add Breeze to a midfield that already includes the likes of Charlie Reece, Tom Thorley and Matt Birley.

Former Bristol Rovers winger Reece featured at Knights Lane on Saturday and the City boss was pleased with what he saw.

"Charlie is another good signing, he's got pace and good delivery,"

Heeley said. "If Greg Mills doesn't come back then we've got a wide man with very good pedigree."

He added of the friendly victory: "There were lots of pleasing points, I can't think of any negatives.

"I know it's a cliché and the result isn't the important thing but you can't hide the fact that winning games breeds confidence.

"But the biggest benefit was we had twenty-two players who all got 45 minutes with no injuries. We completely changed the team but you could see that there are some very good players and lots of ability."

However, one player who won't be joining Worcester next season is Kevin Sandwith after the left-back opted to look for a club nearer his home.

The 34-year-old was with Lincolnshire-based Gainsborough Trinity last season and had been training with City but Heeley admitted any move was off.

Former Kidderminster Harriers left-back Lee Baker remains a potential addition but he has coaching commitments with West Brom.

Ex-Barrow AFC midfielder Robin Hulbert, another triallist, is spending a week at the Lilleshall National Sports Centre to continue his rehabilitation from the cruciate ligament injury he suffered last October.
