City Return for Glover?
Danny Glover

The 22-year-old striker is a free agent after rejecting a new deal at Nuneaton Town, despite being their top scorer with twenty-one goals and helping them win promotion to the Conference Premier.

Glover was also City’s leading marksman during the 2010/11 campaign, netting twenty times, but opted to leave St George’s Lane last summer.

Money and wanting to challenge for the play-offs appeared to be key factors in his decision twelve months ago and it is has been reported the former Port Vale youngster was hoping for a better offer from Nuneaton.

However, manager Carl Heeley believes Worcester’s seventh-place finish in the Conference North and play-off potential gives them bargaining power and is hoping the pair can come to an arrangement.

He said: “There is an interest in trying to bring Danny back to the club.

“I have had a very constructive chat with him and, although he is looking to keep his options open, there’s a possibility he could return to Worcester. “He’s a player I would be keen to work with again because he’s got a lot to offer.

“We parted on good terms. I try not to burn my bridges with any player and sometimes it can help you in the future. It’s far from a done-deal but I am interested and will do my best to convince him to come back and join us.

“I am always disappointed to lose good players but from his point of view he had two aims last summer - to get promoted and to score goals and he’s achieved both of those things.

“He made the right decision for him at the time but things have changed.

“We are now seen as a side that can potentially challenge for the play-offs again and are a more attractive proposition.”

Although a deal is unlikely to happen for a few weeks because of holidays, bringing Glover back to the Lane would be a major boost for City.

He was a fans’ favourite during his stint at the club, his debut season after failing to secure a deal in the professional game, and could provide the firepower alongside player of the year Mike Symons.

With Michael Taylor the only other striker certain to be on board next term, Heeley is keen to address that area of his squad.

Glover also scored against City during Nuneaton’s 3-0 victory at Liberty Way last month, a result that played a part in ending Worcester’s play-off hopes.
