....pre-season matches for the club, ultimately signing Blue Square Bet South registration terms over the weekend.

The former Ipswich Town and Southend United prospect joined Glenn Pennyfather's ranks for 2012/13 after impressing during friendlies against Canvey Island and East Thurrock United, as well as practice games against Romford and Essex United.

Twenty-one-year-old Calver can play as a striker or wide in midfield.

"I knew Glenn from my time with Southend and it's a great opportunity for me to come to Chelmsford," said Calver. "I'm already mates with some of the players and it's been much easier than I thought to fit in here - everyone's been great. I'm convinced I can do well at this level and intend to take the chances which come to me."

He started his playing career at Ipswich as a youth team player before being signed by Southend in 2009, catching the eye with a prolific goalscoring record in the under-18s.

Upon turning professional, Calver completed loan spells at Harlow Town, St Albans City and Braintree Town before moving permanently to Yeovil Town.

He started last season at Blue Square Bet North outfit Bishop's Stortford.
