...after completing a deal for striker Neville Thompson.
Thompson, who scored sixteen goals under Clowes at Newcastle Town last season, has put pen-to-paper on non-contract forms after Rangers beat off interest from Leek Town to land the forward.
After midfielder Kevin Street also penned terms this week, it takes the number of registered players at Marston Road for next season to seventeen.
Rangers are also trialling defender Josh Skidmore, midfielders Luke Chapman and Danny Edwards and striker Jack Allen, along with full-backs Sean Jones and Joe Keenan.
Jones is the only recognised right-back in the ranks, while midfielder James Marsden, a member of the club’s reserve side last season trying to earn a deal, scored in Saturday’s friendly against Port Vale.
Clowes is also planning to have three goalkeepers on the books next season and has former The New Saints shot-stopper Gareth Barker, who also featured against Vale, on trial.
The Rangers manager wants his summer business done as quickly as possible but believes he now has a sound base to work from. He said: “I am looking to probably have a squad of twenty-one, with the three goalkeepers, and we have got options all over the pitch now.
“I want to make sure there is a squad in place so we can work on things, like team shape and set pieces, rather than making last minute signings.
“There will probably be one or two that come along, but they have got to be better than what we have got and they have got to fit into our budget.”
