County Cup Sponsorship Honours Stalwart

....clubs whilst also honouring the memory of Geoff Harrision, who was secretary of Southall FC and the Middlesex County FA’s Historian until his sudden and untimely passing earlier this year.

`Football & More`, Southall FC’s parent company, will sponsor the Middlesex Intermediate Cup, Junior Cup and Junior Trophy in Harrison’s honour until the end of the 2014/15 season, as well as assisting the Middlesex County FA in establishing the Geoff Harrison Award, which will be a permanent competition for Middlesex clubs who produce outstanding match programmes.

This is particularly fitting, as the programmes Geoff Harrison prepared for Southall were well regarded throughout the game.

Southall FC is one of the oldest clubs in Middlesex, having been formed in 1871, and Geoff Harrison was instrumental in the club surviving difficulties in the late 1990s and beyond.

The club is now prospering under the management of `Football & More` and won promotion to the Molten Spartan South Midlands League, where they are continuing to do well while also playing football with a strong emphasis on skill and technique.

The new partnership is designed to help other grassroots clubs, with the winners and runners-up in the Intermediate Cup, Junior Cup and Junior Trophy receiving kit and equipment of their choice through the

Middlesex County FA. Middlesex County FA President Jim Taylor visited Southall’s match with Harpenden Town last weekend to formally launch the partnership alongside club chairman Tommy Taylor and his team of club officials.

Peter Clayton, chief executive of the Middlesex County FA, said: “We are delighted to have agreed this partnership with Football & More. Geoff Harrison made a significant contribution to football in Middlesex and especially at Southall. Geoff was a personal friend of mine and it is very moving that he is being remembered in this way and that grassroots clubs will directly benefit, given how passionate he was about his club.”

Tommy Taylor, chairman of Southall FC, commented: "An historian, a guide and an excellent club secretary are just some of the ways one would describe Geoff. He was an asset to the club as well as the new management team, especially during the transition from the old to the new management at Southall FC. A great source of knowledge, his support and services to the Club would be greatly missed. I am sure he would have been proud to see the progress that the club has been making lately. RIP Geoff Harrison."
