Cray in Danger of Folding

Ryman League Premier Division Cray Wanderers FC is sending out a rallying cry to Cray residents, businesses and traders to get behind its plan to build a ground in Sandy Lane, St Paul’s Cray.

The club, formed in 1860, has applied to Bromley Council for permission to build a sporting complex including a 5,153 seater stadium, a fitness centre and multi-use arena and an outdoor all weather full size football pitch.

On the site it also wants to build a 115 bedroom hotel, including a restaurant, and 182 homes.

Cray Wanderers chairman Gary Hillman said: "We really would like the community to get behind this.

“It will help rejuvenate an area that needs investment and the sporting facilities will be particularly important to an area which has the lowest life expectancy rate in all of Greater London."

"I really want to see our plans approved because I do believe this is going to be good not only for the football club but for all those who live in the Crays and want to see the area improved." And the club’s secretary Kerry Phillips warned: "Cray Wanderers, this famous football club, could go out of existence because in 2014 we will have no ground to play at, after our current lease at Bromley FC has expired.

“We cannot emphasise strongly enough that if residents, supporters and traders want the new ground to happen, bringing many community benefits to the Crays, please tell the council.

“Please actively back the bid and show your support by visiting the planning section on the council's website and completing the comment form for the application which has the reference 12/01388/OUT."

Cray Wanderers says it expects the council to make a decision on the application in September.
