....disappointment as they lost 3-2 to lower league Redgate Clayton in the final of the Staffordshire FA Vase on Monday night.
In a game played in front of 200 spectators at Marston Road, home of Stafford Rangers, first half goals from Lee Talbot and Michael Machin gave Norton the lead at the break.
But two goals in a 6-minute spell late in the second half from Wayne Glover clinched victory for the side currently sitting in fourth place in the Staffordshire County FA Senior League, and meant that United collected runners-up medals in the competition for the second consecutive season.
Norton United general manager John Cotton said: “We created plenty of chances on the night, but if you don’t put those away you’ve got a problem. We should have scored in the first minute, and we had three efforts cleared off the line after we went 3-2 down and were trying to get back into the game.
“The heavy schedule of games we have had recently looked like it took its toll in the last 20 minutes or so, and there were some tired legs out there towards the end. We did our best but on the night it wasn’t to be. But we’ll pick ourselves up and go again on Wednesday when we go to face Cheadle Town in the league.”
