During the close season, the Daniels` board of directors have conducted a number of surveys, with a variety of stakeholders, designed to evaluate the operational areas. Following one such review it was decided that there was a commercial advantage in establishing an exclusive identity, rather than continuing to use the town's coat of arms as the club's official crest. The board were, however, very keen to ensure the coat of arms, which has been an integral part of the Daniels' 116-year history, remained central to any new design. The club expected fans to want to retain as much of the coat of arms within the design as possible and having invited opinion from supporters via the official website that was confirmed. One thing that did surprise the board, though, was a strong desire to introduce black into the design. Based on the results of the survey, the club developed concept design four, and introduced a black background, to end up with the final design, and will now be used on all Stamford AFC branded products. The crest will appear on the home shirts for the very first time tonight, when Graham Drury's side welcome Rotherham United to the Daniels Stadium for the final home pre-season friendly.
