However, in a history spanning more than 130 years there have been plenty of ups and downs all of which are chronicled in a new book on the history of the club.

The book is 220 pages with more than 100 photos and images, many in colour, and is a feast of information and facts as well as personal stories from former players, including Alec Jackson of West Bromwich Albion and Dennis Hill, who played against many of the Busby babes for Birmingham City.

The book includes a short biography of all 115 players who have played Football League, including for Manchester United, Spurs, Arsenal, Villa, Wolves, Southampton , Nottingham Forest and many others.

With five FA Cup winners and three internationals, including an England captain the club boasts credentials that few non-League clubs can match.
