Their original opponents were Brighouse Town but the Baris Northern Counties East League side instead are due to play against Huddersfield Town’s Academy after a late switch.

Avenue hastily rearranged and will now face Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division South opposition. It has been a busy week for Horsfall boss John Deacey as he looks to trim his squad in readiness for the start of the new campaign.

He had between 22 and 25 players available for both opening warm-up games, against Thackley and last weekend’s draw at home to Doncaster Rovers.

This week Deacey and assistant-manager Mark Hume have been making tough decisions as to which players have impressed enough to be offered deals. But Avenue are still on the lookout for an experienced goalkeeper following the retirement of John Lamb.
