Diamonds Announce First Signings
Aynsley McDonald (Mal Swinden)

....their first signings ahead of the 2012/13 campaign, welcoming Aynsley McDonald and Quincy Shorunmu to the club.

McDonald will be familiar to Diamonds fans having joined the Rushden & Diamonds youth academy at under-13 level and progressed to earn a place in the first-team squad, making his debut in April 2010.

Twenty-year-old McDonald has represented Wales at under-17 level was at Blue Square Bet North side Corby Town last season.

McDonald said: “I am really looking forward to playing for the Diamonds again. I only managed twenty games last season due to an injury so I can’t wait to get back to enjoying my football again.

“I am looking forward to working with manager Mark Starmer again, once pre-season is out of the way, as he works you hard! I think I will be able to help the players around get organised and hopefully we can have a very successful season.

“From the early stages I’ve seen that off the field the people behind the scenes are very dedicated and motivated to get their club back to where it belongs. They have a lot of passion and belief and I hope I can do my bit as well.”

Highly-rated goalkeeper Shorunmu joins the club having played for Northampton Spencer in the UCL Premier Division last season under AFC Rushden & Diamonds assistant-manager Andy Peaks.

Shorunmu said: “I am delighted to join the club. I have worked with Andy before and he’s a great manager. I am really looking forward to getting started and can’t wait to play in front of the fans.”
