Disappointing End to Heath Reign
Steve Heath

....came to an end on Saturday with a 3-2 loss at high-flying Dunstable Town.

As the rain poured down, Levy took a first half lead through Max Farrelly, but three Dunstable goals after the break swung the game in the hosts’ favour.

Paul Insley slotted home late on to give Green hope of salvaging a point, but it was not to be for Levy and the departing Heath.

Although he did not get the winning send-off he was after, Heath admits he has no regrets in his decision to end his three-year tenure at the club.

“It feels a bit strange but I know it is the right thing for myself,” he said. “I’m just disappointed we didn’t get the win to be honest.”

During his time at the club, Heath led Levy to the last-sixteen of the FA Vase, secured a fourth-place finish in the league and reached four cup finals. They won the Herts Charity Shield last season.

“You’ve got to look at what we’ve achieved, especially last year. Even this year we reached a final and two semi-finals which have made it a decent season.

“I think the highlight of my time here has to be the FA Vase run which created a great atmosphere – we were in dreamland a little bit!

“Winning the cup last year was great as well, and this season I was really proud of the lads in the final when they went toe-to-toe with Bishop’s Stortford.

“I’ve just taken the club as far as I can. It might be good for the club to have someone to come in and freshen things up again – a bit like I did three years ago.”

Heath is now ready for a break from management, but admits he won’t be away for long.

“I’m prepared to take a year out but if something comes up, I’d definitely sit down and talk.”

And Heath says that although he is leaving Pancake Lane, he will be keeping an eye on Levy’s progress.

“I’ll be looking out for the results and seeing how the lads are getting on,” he said.

“For now, I just want to say a bit thank you to coach Neil Bartlett and to Mick Large and Mick Blaney.

“I also want to wish chairman Kate Binns all the best for next season.”
