Marvin Williams

....Blue Square Bet South rivals Salisbury City.

Williams has signed an initial two-year deal having turned down a number of other offers in the process, both from this country and abroad, and will join his new team-mates at the Silverlake for the first day of pre-season training.

Spitfires` manager Ian Baird commented: “Marvin is a player that I’ve been tracking for a while and looked very dangerous when we played Salisbury back in February.

“He’s quick, direct and will add good competition for places. He’s still a young lad with bags of potential and hopefully can fulfill that and progress with us.”

Majority shareholder Stewart Donald met with Baird at the ground to discuss his retained player list from the existing squad and also to talk through a number of transfer targets that the club has been tracking.

"Marvin was a key target for Bairdy and we are delighted he has chosen to join ourselves over his other options. We will publish our retained list shortly and we will probably have another signing or two to announce as we start our rebuilding work over the summer," said Donald.

Williams, who can play as a striker or as a wide midfielder, began his career as a trainee at Millwall making his first-team debut in December 2005.

He went on to make ten starts for the Lions in 2005/06, scoring five goals (including the equaliser in a 1-1 FA Cup draw with Everton) and making a big impression at the New Den.

Struggling to make regular first-team appearances, he had a spell on loan at Torquay United in March 2007 for a month before returning to Millwall, playing over fifty first-team games for the London club.

At the start of the 2007/08 season he joined West Country club Yeovil Town for an undisclosed fee.

Having initially featured regularly for the Glovers, he suffered an injury and on his return was unable to break back into the team.

A year later Williams returned to London signing for Brentford on a one-year contract and helped the club achieve promotion to League One.

Williams’ footballing development continued as he rejoined Torquay, this time on a permanent basis, and then signed for Swedish Third Division side Ostersunds FK in April 2010, making seven appearances.

The spell in Sweden was not problem free though, as the club are based that far north Williams had to contend with daylight 24 hours a day!

Having an offer from Spanish side CF Gandia fall through in the eleventh hour, in early 2011 he joined Hemel Hempstead Town before signing for Salisbury, scoring a brace on his debut.

Williams’ claim to fame is his cousin is former England, Arsenal and Crystal Palace legend, Ian Wright.
