Edinburgh Hopes It`s Rodney Parade
Justin Edinburgh

.....Spytty Park tomorrow, but admits he is hopeful it’s the last time he walks out for a game at Newport Stadium.

The Exiles sign off for the season at home against Andy Morrell’s side, already guaranteed a play-off berth, with the likelihood of the biggest home attendance at Spytty in months.

However, the club have made clear their intention to try to broker a deal that will see them make Rodney Parade their home for the 2012/13 season, and Edinburgh confessed that he is right behind the move.

“We will be going out to win another football match and finish as high as we can, but it could be that it’s the last game at Spytty Park,” he said. “What we need to remember, from the board down to myself who is having an input into it is that it would be the right reasons if we go.

“It’s about progressing the football club, and if we do move then I think it’s the right thing to do.

“We might upset some people along the way, but as the manager, knowing the difficulties we’ve had on this pitch and the facilities and atmosphere that are available at Rodney Parade, I think it would take the club forward.

“Tuesday could be a sad day in terms of playing at Spytty Park but it’s about progressing the club.”

Edinburgh praised his players for handling the pressure-cooker situation of relegation after the Exiles consigned Hayes & Yeading United to the Conference South to finally put the issue of relegation to bed.

“The players have to take some credit, they’ve been playing under enormous pressure and now we are mathematically safe,” he said.

“They’ve coped well with the pressure and since the turn of the year I have been delighted with them.”

The former Tottenham man is looking to beat Wrexham with momentum required ahead of County’s big day at Wembley.

“It’s a big game for the supporters, a local derby with a lot of pride at stake and we want to win another football match,” he said. “We need as many points on the board as possible, we could yet finish fifteenth and from where we were that could look quite healthy.”
