Grays Athletic, relegated from the Bostik League Premier at the end of last season, find themselves third-bottom of the Bostik North table with just seven points from eleven matches after going down to a 3-1 defeat at Aveley`s excellent Parkside to Potters Bar Town on Wednesday night.
It started well enough for Jamie Stuart’s side, who were looking to build on their 4-3 win over league rivals Norwich United in the Buildbase FA Trophy last Saturday, as Kai Brown put them in front in the 11th minute.
Andy Lomas pulled the Scholars back on level terms in the 37th minute and just 4 minutes later, the visitors took the lead when Eoin Casey was fouled in the box and Michael Murray duly converted the resulting penalty.
Nine minutes into the second period, Potters Bar made it 3-1 when Casey netted following a corner.
The visitors – switched from the Evo-Stik League South East in the close season – survived an odd scare or two before claiming the points that lifted them to seventh in the table.
